Right Media’s Smart Green Gift: Kleen Canteen

(Green) Kudos to Right Media! For this year’s employee gift. Our CEO ‘emeritus’ Mike Walrath gave us Kleen Canteens.
OK. I do ‘occasionally’ (once every 3-4 months) purchase “plastic water”. Considering that some of the plastic used in the plastic bottles that hold water leach totally unhealthy chemicals into the water, it doesn’t make sense to pay that much for “clean” water, right? Then the bottle most likely winds up in other places that it shouldn’t. And it uses precious petroleum and resources to be made, but it’s used only once. And if you reuse it, that increases the chances of the yucky chemical leachate…
So, by chance in the last week:
a) Mike Walrath sent all of the Right Media crew large (40oz) Right Media monogrammed Kleen Canteen stainless steel containers. They don’t leech. They’re easy to wash. You can refill them over and over and over…a much more sustainable choice than buying something plastic that’s going to be thrown away…
b) On Friday night, at Eugene’s “Good Earth Home, Garden & Living Show”, I met a representative of Kleen Kanteen at her booth. She was wearing a ‘LOHAS de riguer’ Patagonia jacket, and had about 20 different bottles out. I took pride taking out my new RM one. It rocks. They started in Chico, CA–the same place “Chico Bags” began (which I use often). Or organic beer like Butte Creek. Not surprising.
So Mike, thanks for the bottle. I’ll use mine often.
(And why did I mention Patagonia just now? Besides being funky/functional clothing, they’re also cutting-edge in recycling; you can send your worn out jackets back to them to be recycled and reprocessed into new clothing! Does it save energy? Does it save on sourcing the materials to make their goods? You bet. Sustainability increases everyone’s bottom-line.)
